Challenges
In the Philippines, severe healthcare workforce shortages, uneven resource distribution, brain drain, and Universal Health Coverage demands have created an urgent need for safe clinical training that lets students apply theoretical knowledge through repeated hands-on practice without risking patient lives. In this overburdened healthcare system—with few mentors and crowded facilities—traditional bedside training compounds the problem by requiring novices to practice on real patients, increasing errors and straining limited resources, which makes advanced simulation labs essential.
Our state-of-the art Saints Cosmas and Damian Center for Simulation at USTH is essential for training competent physicians in a safe, controlled environment without overburdening limited real-patient opportunities or risking errors.
