Medical Missions

While USTMAAA alumni have deployed many medical missions, this year, we are proud to have collaborated with the USTH Clinical Division in its first in-house medical mission. "Alaga at Tulong Tomasino," a five-day community health initiative participated in by at least 800 medical volunteers that changed the lives of more than 2,000 patients.

Road to Recovery

Covid-19 and related challenges inflicted catastrophic operational damage upon UST’s new St. John Paul II Hospital and the USTH Clinical Division. Patient admissions plummeted, learning opportunities for residents dwindled, and operating revenues fell short of rising costs.
Slowly but surely, the collaboration between USTMAAA Foundation and the new hospital administration is moving both St. John Paul II Hospital and USTH Clinical Division toward recovery. There is demonstrable progress in hospital operations, dramatic increases in patient census across all units, as well as improved clinical learning opportunities and competitive stipends to strengthen our medical residency program.

Simulation Center

In our overburdened healthcare system—with few mentors and crowded facilities—traditional bedside training compounds the problem by requiring novices to practice on real patients, increasing errors and straining limited resources, which makes advanced simulation labs essential. The Saints Cosmas and Damian Center for Simulation at USTH is essential for training competent physicians in a safe, controlled environment without overburdening limited real-patient opportunities or risking errors.

Research Programs

Teaching hospitals like USTH face severe shortages in medical research funding, stalling vital studies at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery that could yield life-saving breakthroughs for millions. By investing in medical research, we help to foster innovation and improve healthcare outcomes.
